Hey America. How’s your shit?

That judge is sick and reading this simply makes my heart break for humanity. We could all learn a lesson or two about compassion from Judge LaGuardia, mayor of New York City during the Great Depression. I love retelling this story:

In January of 1935, a woman stood in front of LaGuardia charged with stealing bread for her starving family. “I have to punish you,” the judge said. “The law is clear in this case, and I fine you 10 dollars.” Then LaGuardia pulled 10 dollars out of his own wallet and said, “The fine is paid. I now fine everyone in the courtroom fifty cents apiece for living in a town where a woman has to steal in order to eat. Mr. Baliff, collect the fines and give them to the defendant.”

Someone beautifully said, “Sympathy sees and says, ‘I’m sorry.’ Compassion sees and says, ‘I’ll help.’ When we learn the difference, we can make a difference.”

…I pray someone lightens this guy’s sentence.

Wow, so I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I know this person. Ugh. And some Americans really wonder why the rest of the world hates the USA so much? I apologize to you normal Americans, but I can assure you that people like this patriotic gentleman aren’t helping you guys with the reputation…
